Description

NAVA Apparel’s Men’s Classic Desert Shoes are a modernised version of the original South African ‘veldskoen’ in diesel toffee and diesel brown leather with a brown leather trim finish. The interior of the shoes are fully lined with leather and fitted with Italian Fiberboard insoles, covered in latex foam and then wrapped with leather for extra comfort. Italian Fiberboards are more breathable and durable and can last up to 10 years, which helps to prevent the soles from splitting. Fitted with 100% genuine Eco rubber soles for excellent grip and then hand-stitched through the bottom of the shoes for outstanding quality. All NAVA Apparel shoes are handmade by highly skilled, local South African craftsmen, to whom we pay fair trade wages.

‘Xhosa’ is a Bantu ethnic tribe of Southern Africa living in south-east South Africa, and in the last two centuries throughout the southern and central-southern parts of the country. The Xhosa people are divided into several tribes with related yet distinct heritages. The main tribes are the Mpondo, Mpondomise, Bomvana, Xesibe, and Thembu. In addition, the Bhaca and Mfengu have adopted the Xhosa language. The name “Xhosa” comes from that of a legendary leader called uXhosa. There is also a fringe theory that, prior to that, the name xhosa came from a word meaning “fierce” or “angry” in some San language. The Xhosa refer to themselves as the amaXhosa, and to their language as isiXhosa. Presently approximately 8 million Xhosa are distributed across the country, and the Xhosa language is South Africa’s second-most-populous home language, after Zulu, to which Xhosa is closely related.
